Day Care Center
The Day Care Center was started in 1986 with the desire to contribute a service to the community around the Eastern Star Home Campus, especially to the young families with working parents.
The Eastern Star Day Care Center in Oriskany provides enriching and beneficial experiences for children ranging in age from 8 weeks to 5 years old.
A well trained and educated staff provides a loving and learning atmosphere to meet the needs of every individual child.
Children take part in numerous activities including art, science, pre-math, pre-reading, motor and language skills development, dramatic play, indoor and outdoor play. Children are grouped according to their age and development.
- Infants - 8 weeks to 18 months. The infants schedule is flexible and will be changed according to each child's needs.
- Toddlers - 18 months to 3 years.
- Rompers - 3 years.
- Pre-School - 4-5 years.
Through play and planned activities the children develop friendships that enable them to refine their social skills and behavior. An inter-generational program in conjunction with the residents of the Eastern Star Home, is incorporated into the daily program. Children have the enjoyment of playing and reading with the seniors, with all benefiting from the experience.
Each child is provided with a nutritious lunch and two snacks each day.
As an extension of the Day Care Center, the Latch Key Program provides supervision for children in the hours before school begins and from the close of the school day until their parents can pick them up (between 5 and 6 o'clock). The children receive snacks in the morning and again in the afternoon. The supervisors help with the homework assignments and fun activities are planned. This program offers safety and supervision for children that would otherwise return to an empty house or apartment. A summer day camp is also available.
